The silent blackout of the well renowned site is a protest against proposed legislation in the United States – the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) in the U.S. House of Representatives, and the PROTECT IP Act (PIPA) in the U.S. Senate and if these acts are passed means that it can hurt the interests of sites supporting access to open information through free and open Internet.
