But the RBI kept the Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) unchanged. Last time, the Central Bank raised rates by 50 basis points was two months back in May 2011.

Derivative Analysis

A significant increase in OI in the 5,500- strike call options and change of hands in the same strike put options suggests a breakout below 5,500 in the near future. The market picture chart, however, hints at a volume and price-based decline around 5,477. There are only two days remaining for expiry of July series and hence 5,620 is likely to be a resistance level for the market in the near future. MKTP chart hints at volume-based correction tomorrow. Technically market has given a sell signal and we may see some support emanating at 5530 levels.

There have been reports that Disney is looking to buy the remainder of UTVs stake for Rs 2000 crore. The Walt Disney Company (Southeast Asia) is looking to take Indian media conglomerate UTV Software private by acquiring publicly held shares in the open market at a maximum of Rs 1000 per share, and delisting the company.

Please note that The price of Rs 1000 is for Public Shareholding only and Disney has not disclosed how much it is willing to pay for the 19.82% held by RS Promoters. From the perspective of Disney, they consider Rs 1000 as an attractive price for the Public shareholding, but says that this is neither the maximum price, nor is it an offer to acquire the complete shareholding. If the delisting of UTV Software is successful, Disney will look to acquire the remaining 19.82% shares currently held by UTVs promoter group (RS Promoters) – Ronnie Screwvala, Unilazer Exports and Management Consultants, Unilazer (Hong Kong) and Zarina Mehta – who hold 8053480 shares, constituting 19.82% of the current paid up equity capital of the company. This means that 29.74% shares are held publicly.

CRISIL Research has come out with its report on UTV Software Communications . The research firm has initiated coverage on the company with a valuation grade of 1/5 and maintained the fair value of Rs 627 per share, in its July 26, 2011 report.

Nifty is trading in a sideways zone and is having stiff resistance at 5700 level. Nifty is likely to get support at 5677 and face resistance at 5715-5733 and value of Nifty 5715 holds significance as it is 200 DMA of Nifty. The momentum indicators points to a positive bias and thus Nifty can target 5762 in August series and may target 6000 level by Diwali on the back of positive global developments and foreign institutional fund flows. The present week  is going to be an action packed week with F&O expiry and RBI credit update tomorrow. Today market breadth was positive. Out of 3004 stocks traded, 1605 advanced while 1277 declined at BSE. Thus overall a bullish pattern emerges in market above 5700. RBI Update

It would be very important to look at RBI’s measures on Tuesday, given that China has already hinted at reversing its tightening regime as inflation is expected to cool off. Any further rate hike may not serve any purpose, given that banks have been tight in terms of liquidity and corporate borrowers have been very selective in availing money at higher costs. We expect the RBI to pause tightening at the end of this quarter/start of next quarter.

Telecom Companies State of Affairs

The telecom companies had a field day as they raised their tariffs from 50 paise per minute (ppm) to 60 ppm for local and STD mobile to mobile calls and from 60 ppm to 90 ppm for calls to landlines for new pre-paid subscribers. Tariffs were also raised by a similar quantum in per second billing plans to 1.2 paisa while the free airtime offered earlier was removed. These changes were announced for six circles, including Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Madhya Pradesh.
