Key Announcement

The Finance Minister has reiterated the government's commitment to making income tax compliance easier for honest taxpayers while maintaining strict action against tax evasion. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has also outlined five key reform priorities to improve efficiency, transparency and taxpayer services.

✅ Appeals Pendency Reduced
Pending income tax appeals declined by approximately 34,000, bringing the total pendency down to around 5.4 lakh appeals.

✅ Focus On Reducing Fresh Litigation
CBDT has been directed to reduce the filing of new appeals wherever appropriate, helping lower litigation and improve dispute resolution.

📊 Tax Administration Performance

  • 94% of taxpayer grievances filed during FY26 have been resolved.
  • Income tax refund claims have crossed 1.3 crore.
  • Nearly 94% of filed Income Tax Returns (ITRs) have been verified.

Investor & Taxpayer Takeaway

Derivative Pro & Nifty Expert Gulshan Khera, CFP® observes that continued digitisation of India's tax administration and faster grievance resolution can improve taxpayer confidence and reduce compliance burdens. While enforcement against tax evasion remains a priority, initiatives such as quicker refund processing, lower litigation and a stronger e-filing platform are positive steps toward creating a more efficient and transparent tax ecosystem.
