Can UPI ATMs Replace Debit Cards For Cash Withdrawals?
India's digital payments ecosystem continues to evolve with the growing rollout of UPI-enabled ATM cash withdrawals. The new system, based on Interoperable Cardless Cash Withdrawal (ICCW), allows customers to withdraw cash by scanning a QR code with a UPI-enabled mobile application, reducing dependence on physical debit cards.
The initiative aims to improve convenience while enhancing security by eliminating the need to insert a card into the ATM.
How Does UPI ATM Work?
Step 1: Select "UPI Cash Withdrawal" on the ATM screen.
Step 2: Enter the amount you wish to withdraw.
Step 3: A unique QR code appears on the ATM display.
Step 4: Open your preferred UPI app such as BHIM, Google Pay, PhonePe or Paytm and scan the QR code.
Step 5: Authenticate the transaction by entering your UPI PIN.
Step 6: Once the transaction is authorised, the ATM dispenses cash.
