- Most casualties occurred in their fighting positions, weapons still in hand.
- Chinese forces reportedly suffered 700–1,300 casualties (unofficial estimates).
- Maj. Shaitan Singh moved between posts under fire, motivating his men until he was fatally wounded.
Casualties & Aftermath
- Indian martyrs: 114 out of 120
- Survivors: 6 (all severely injured)
- Award: Major Shaitan Singh awarded Param Vir Chakra (Posthumous)
- Discovery of bravery: When a recovery party reached the site months later, bodies were found facing the enemy, hands still on their rifles.
Legacy & Recognition
- The battle is globally recognised as a rare example of total unit sacrifice.
- Rezang La War Memorial carries the names of all 114 martyrs.
- The 2021 memorial reconstruction was done using local stones to retain authenticity.
