What Do September Auto Sales Indicate About India’s Festive Season Demand?
The Indian automobile sector has reported steady growth in September 2025, driven by improving rural sentiment and strong pre-festive buying. Overall sales across categories indicate healthy consumer demand momentum as OEMs ramp up production for October and November.
Passenger vehicle (PV) sales rose by 4.4% to 3.72 lakh units compared to 3.56 lakh units in September last year. The segment continues to benefit from SUV-led demand, with most manufacturers reporting strong bookings ahead of Navratri and Diwali.

Two-wheeler (2W) sales also registered a strong recovery of 6.7% year-on-year, rising to 21.60 lakh units from 20.25 lakh units. Improved rural demand, higher disposable income, and better monsoon distribution have contributed to this growth, with scooters leading the surge in urban areas.
Three-wheeler (3W) sales improved by 5.5%, reaching 80,477 units versus 79,683 units a year earlier. Analysts attribute this rise to steady demand for last-mile mobility and improved financing availability from NBFCs and small lenders.
The combined performance of these segments points to an encouraging start for the second half of FY2025-26. Automakers are optimistic that festive discounts, new model launches, and the rural recovery trend will continue supporting retail demand.
