Von Paulus Cdr German Sixth Army surrounded the Russians. 

Stalin released 25 Divs from Siberia upon learning that Japanese were going to Singapore and not coming to Russia through an agent in Tokyo Richard Sorge. 

Paulus was surrounded now and staring at defeat. 

Hitler promoted failed Paulus as Field Marshal and said no German field marshal has ever surrendered thus hinting Paulus to commit suicide.

Paulus however surrendered to Zhukov . 

First time a failed Gen was promoted. 

Second time *Asif Munir of Pakistan*
