All about Good Friday

Around two thousand years ago, a series of deeply moving events took place on this very day.

Because of these events, the day is now observed as Good Friday.

On Good Friday, Jesus Christ experienced a series of trials and sufferings that ultimately led to his crucifixion and death. Here's a summary of what happened:

• Arrest: Jesus was betrayed by one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, and arrested by Roman soldiers while praying in the Garden of Gethsemane.

• Trial: He was brought before Caiaphas, the high priest, and accused of blasphemy. Though no solid evidence was found against him, his own words were used to convict him.

• Peter's Denial: While the trial was underway, Peter—one of Jesus' closest followers—denied knowing him three times when questioned by bystanders.

• Judas' Regret: Overcome with guilt for betraying Jesus, Judas returned the thirty silver coins he had been paid and took his own life.

• Before Pilate: Jesus was handed over to the Roman governor, Pontius Pilate. Though Pilate found no fault in him, he gave in to public pressure and sentenced Jesus to death by crucifixion.

• The Crucifixion: After being scourged and mocked, Jesus carried his cross to Golgotha, where he was crucified between two criminals. A sign placed above him read, "This is Jesus, the King of the Jews."

• His Death: In his final moments, Jesus cried out to God and passed away. At that moment, the sky darkened, the earth quaked, and the temple curtain tore in two.

• Burial: His body was taken down from the cross and placed in a tomb by Joseph of Arimathea, a wealthy follower.

These events are regarded as a cornerstone of the Christian faith, symbolizing Jesus' immense love, sacrifice, and forgiveness for all humanity.
