How Your Surrendering of a Phone Number can Lead to a Fraud?

Recently a woman had Rs.8,16,000/- disappeared from her bank account.

  How exactly did this happen?

 1.  The mobile number which the woman had linked with her bank account.  She did not use that number for 4 years.

 2.  But did not inform the bank to delete it from her KYC.

 3.  Now, that unused mobile SIM number is closed by the mobile company and given to another person.

 4.  According to the mobile company policy, if any number is not used by you for 6 months, it can be given to someone else.

 5.  Now the regular incoming SMS of the bank started coming to the person who got the new number.

 6.  What did he do ??  He accessed the bank's site through a link.  And clicked on *Forgot Password*.

 7.  Now the OTP of the link from the bank went to the number in his possession for authentication.

 8.  He completed the formalities and happily withdrew all the money through internet banking.

So, if you have linked your old mobile number which you are not using anymore or have closed it, you will need to go to the bank and delink that number as per banking rules.

Your mobile number if unused for six months, will be reallocated to someone else.

Be safe !!!
