SOPs i.e. Standard Operating Procedures are not only for professional expertise but also play a vital role in our personal lives as well.
Here are a few points to support this theory:
1) SOPs Bring Discipline: SOPs ensure that a particular task is done in a particular format, at a particular time, within a particular span and with particular resources. There is no scope of deviating from any of the steps. This is what we call discipline, when we do things as they are expected to be done, each and every time.
2) SOPs Enhance Productivity: Be it professional front or personal life, the productivity increases with SOPs because they ensure that not just once, but everytime a task is completed in a set format by everyone. Hence, there is no scope of dilly-dallying which automatically means increased productivity because productivity means useful work done within a stipulated time. Another reason for increased productivity through SOPs is that SOPs prevent accidents because when we follow SOPs, there is hardly any scope of an accident, which by default means that the productivity will increase.
3) SOPs Bring Uniformity: This is self-explanatory that SOPs bring uniformity because no matter who is performing, the same result is derived everytime by everyone. Our Armed forces are a live example of organisations which Excel by following the SOPs.
4) SOPs Boost Credibility: A person or an organisation which follows SOPs are known to be doing things in a set pattern which increases their credibility that be it any product or any service, they won't be compromising at any stage and the end result will be the same everytime.
5) SOPs Prevent Undesirable Results: This is a very important fact that we cannot do a certain activity right everytime unless we standardize its procedure. Being humans, we tend to make error. We have mood swings, we have distraction, and we just cannot have complete concentration on a particular task everytime under various circumstances.
6) SOPs Boosts Confidence: This we all know and have been hearing since our childhood that when we do something correctly again and again, it boosts our confidence. Confidence is nothing but a by-product of doing something right in a desirable format repeatedly. The more number of times someone does something right, the more confident he is. Same theory stands applicable for an organisation as well.
7) SOPs Derive Sales: This is little intricate to understand, but can be deciphered by reckoning the facts that when a person or an organisation does right things time and again and when this individual or organisation has the confidence, credibility, productivity and discipline, then sales are bound to increase. Sale is a by-product of Marketing, and right marketing means credible marketing with facts in place. Hence, when something is done in the right way always and everytime, it stimulates the right marketing automatically.
