Finally, after many false starts over the last three decades, Chennai's second airport project at Parandur (about 25 km SE of INS Rajali, Arakkonam and 60 km West of Chennai) is finally moving ahead. Spread over almost 5000 acres, it will have twin runways (06-24) similar to Rajali runway alignment. The airport is close to the under-comstruction Bengaluru-Chennai expressway (a spur is planned to connect the airport) and plans are progressing for Metro connectivity from Poonamalee. The airport is expected to commence operations from 2028.
