As you are aware, linking of PAN-Aadhar is mandatory with effect from 1st April 2023. If PAN-Aadhaar is not linked, the PAN will be deemed as "inoperative". Once PAN becomes "inoperative", it is deemed that the investor had not furnished, intimated, or quoted PAN and accordingly be liable for consequences under the Act. Please be guided that Mutual Fund transactions (Fresh or Additional Purchase, Switch, Systematic, Redemption etc.) may get restricted or higher TDS may be deducted, as appropriate.
The PAN will become "operative" only when the same is linked with Aadhaar.
In a recent exercise carried out by us with Income Tax database, we have identified investors who have not linked their Aadhaar to PAN. We request you to advise your investors on this urgent and important action item and guide them to link their Aadhaar with their PAN to avoid any disruptions in transactions or warranting higher TDS deduction. To assist you, we had enabled the information on PANs where Aadhaar linking is pending through WBR-56. And this report WBR56 was enabled in the Distributor mail back report over a year ago. We hope you are utilizing the same to create awareness amongst your investors so that they comply with the regulations.
If not done till now, we request you to kindly make use of the WBR-56 report and inform your investors to initiate necessary action. If the investor has already completed the linking, we will independently validate the same with Income tax database on 1st April 2023 and based on the status received, Mutual Fund transactions will be allowed, as appropriate.
Also, we would like to highlight that, failure of linking Pan Aadhar will result in invalid KYC of the investor.
