With the prohibition on animal sacrifice, suspension of hajj for many and restrictions on prayers in mosques on Islam's biggest festival due to the pandemic, maybe God is telling us to focus on what matters in religious piety: the transformation of the self beyond the performance of outward rituals. It does not mean that rituals are not important; but rituals are only beneficial as far as they lead to the inner transformation of the self towards the values taught by religion - compassion, mercy, love, justice, truth, charity, and more for everyone .
