Do Offers & Discounts Help a Company Sell Products?

Apple EMI scheme
Well this can be taken as a case study that offering discounts and new strategies help a company grow or not. We have tried to answer this query with the help of strategy adopted by Apple while increasing their stake in India. As per reports available we have come to know that these strategies have paid off Apple considerably as company’s revenue from India jumped more than 200 per cent to Rs 2,000 crore in FY12 as compared to Rs 620 crore the year before. This revenue is a guidance only as Apple does not reveal revenue details for India separately.

Now we will see that how the offers and discounts have helped Apple establish itself in India:

With the schemes, Apple has changed the perception about iPhone from being a top-end device of desire to a product affordable for mass Indian consumers. According to analysts, iPhone sales jumped from about 70,000-80,000 units a month to about 400,000 units after the schemes were rolled out.

The same strategy has been adopted by Apple while selling MacBook Pro as they have come with an innovative scheme on EMI. For a specific model of MacBook Air, a buyer will have to make a down payment of Rs 19,900 and the rest in 12 EMIs of Rs 3,990 each. A model of MacBook Pro will come at a down payment of Rs 27,900 and the remaining in 12 EMIs of Rs 4,490 each. And, for a specific model of the iMac, the down payment is Rs 31,990, while the EMI is Rs 4,490 for 12 months.

We hope to see Apple see their units sale increase from the current 3.9 million units sale in the March quarter.

Verdict

We are of the view that offering zero per cent interest EMI schemes for the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and iMac to tap mass Indian consumers is definitely going to yield results and we see same strategy being adopted by Samsung while selling their products. However we have still not applied such a technique while providing our services for Jackpot Tip and this can be considered as a case study for going ahead to garner more subscriber base.
