Bombay Burmah Trading Corporation (BOMBURH), part of USD 750 million Wadia group, is engaged through group and subsidiary activities in the business of teak, tea, coffee, laminates, springs, weighing, dental, ophthalmic, orthopedic, auto electrical, and horticulture. Incorporated on Sept. 4, 1863, it got its current name on April 30, 1864. The chairman of the company is Nusli N. Wadia and Ashok Panjwani, the managing director. Present in a number of countries like Indonesia, Thailand, Tanzania and Sabah, the company has 2822 hectares under tea cultivation in South India which produces about 8 million kg of tea annually. It has a group of eight (927 hectares) coffee estates through Elk Hill in Coorg, Karnataka. Its total annual clean coffee production is about 1,000 tons. Indo Java Rubber Planting & Trading Company (Indonesia), a subsidiary, has an estate covering 1385 hectares of rubber plantation. The company has its crumb rubber factory at its Ciseru estate. It has horticulture nurseries in Singapore and Malaysia which provide indoor and outdoor plants. The company produces the Sunmica, Curvica and Formica brand of laminates. It exports springs manufactured by the group company BCL Springs. The company deals in 1,400 types of springs (technical agreement with NHK, Japan). The company exports the Afcoset brand of weighing products. Through the health care division, the company provides dental, precision ophthalmic instruments (forceps needles, scissors, etc), and orthopedic products (joint replacement implants & instrumentation, internal and external fixation systems). The company provides the Afcoset brand of auto electrical components like alternators, switches, and solenoids. The manufacturing processes are all ISO certified. Electromags Automotive Products (auto parts) and Granum (organic tea) have become part of the company through subsidiary acquisitions.
