Varun Shipping Company (VARUNSHIP) is a private sector shipping company. Incorporated as a private limited company on Jan. 29, 1971, it was converted into a public limited company on Feb. 18, 1972, and has been promoted by the Dilip Khatau Group, which holds companies in shipping and hospitality. The ISO 9001:2000 certified company has a diversified fleet of 20 vessels. It has 12 LPG carriers, including 10 medium-sized (MGC) and two large-sized (LGC) vessels, which form the largest LPG carrier fleet in India in terms of both fleet size and cargo carrying capacity of 332,023 dwt. In the crude oil and petroleum products sector, it owns three double hull Aframax crude oil tankers and one single hull product tanker. In the offshore sector, it has a fleet of three AHTS vessels and one product tanker.
Complying with applicable international standards and requirements, certifications from internationally recognized classification societies such as Det Norske Veritas, Lloyds Register of Shipping, American Bureau of Shipping and the Indian Register of Shipping have been received. Recent awards include The Fastest Expanding Indian Shipping Company for 2006. The company has transported approximately 77% of all LPG cargoes imported into the country by the PSU LPG sector. The three crude oil tankers are placed in the Sigma Tanker Pool, which trades globally, and the product tanker is employed on time charter basis on the Indian coast. Two vessels are deployed on time charter with Oil and Natural Gas Corporation and one with Reliance Industries for supporting their deep sea oil exploration and production activities in Krishna Godavari basin.
