The company was converted into a public limited company on Sep. 20, 1991 and its name was subsequently changed to Pantaloon Retail (India). The company is a part of Future Group, a diversified conglomerate with presence in multiple consumer-centric businesses. The Future Group operates through six verticals: Future Retail, Future Capital, Future Brands, Future Space, Future Media and Future Logistics. Future Capital, the financial arm of the group, is involved in asset management with plans to get into other financial services including insurance and credit. The company operates through multiple consumer centric retail businesses present across segments like food, fashion, footwear, home solutions, consumer electronics, beauty, general merchandise, telecom, entertainment. The businesses are represented through multiple retail formats in lifestyle as well as value retailing. The company operates its businesses through a host of subsidiaries including Pantaloon Food Products, Home Solutions Retail, PAN India Restaurants and PFH Investment Advisory Services. The company has a 51:49 joint venture with Liberty Shoes to set up around 45 large format footwear stores by the end of 2008. As a part of its future strategy, the company plans to enter the wholesale agri-commodities business trade with B2B model similar to that of Wal-Mart`s Sam`s Club across small towns and cities. The move is a part of the strategy to strengthen their back-end supply-chain and sourcing capabilities to reduce costs and sharply scale up business volumes.
