1. The Asian markets were hit in late trade as Goldman Sachs warned of a US recession. News of a rate cut by the Bank of England further dampened global sentiments.
2. The Indian market saw a savage correction today. Sensex closed at 20582, down 287 points and Nifty closed at 6156, down 115 points from the previous close.
3. The CNX Midcaps Index was down by 3.5% and BSE Smallcaps Index was down almost 3.8%.
4. The market breadth was bad with advances at 105 against declines of 1128 on the NSE.
5. Top Nifty gainers included ICICI Bank, Idea Cellular, BHEL and Unitech while losers included GAIL, RPL, SAIL, Tata Power, REL and Tata Steel.
