1. It was a bad day for Asian and European markets. The Indian market too had a rough start, but the Sensex was able to close above 18,000, recovering nearly 650 points from the day's low.
2. The BSE 30-share index closed at 18,152, down 208 points from the previous close. Nifty shut shop at 5274, down 109 points.
3. The CNX Midcaps Index was up 0.6%, while the BSE Smallcaps Index was down 1.1%.
4. Ahead of the RBI Cerdit Policy announcement tomorrow, interest rate sensitive sectors, like banking and auto saw major gains today.
5. The BSE Bankex Index was up 1.2% and BSE Auto Index was up 1.7%.
6. The market breadth was negative with advances at 377 against declines of 835 on the NSE.
