Bimetal Bearings (BIMETAL) is a major engine bearings producer in India. It was established in 1961 in collaboration with Clevite Corporation, USA and Repco, Australia. The QS 9000 certified company offers metallurgy and friction material, aluminium tin and non-plated copper lead bearings, bushings, thrust washer and sintered strips under the brand name Bimite. The manufacturing infrastructure consists of a strip mill plant in Chennai with an installed capacity of 1,200 TPA, bearing plant at Coimbatore and Hosur producing 1.2 million half shells per month, and a thrust washer and bushing plant at Chennai with a capacity of 1 million pieces per month. The state-of-the-art R&D facilities are approved by Department of Scientific & Industrial Research, Government of India. The company and Daido Japan have entered into a joint venture partnership to establish a facility for polymer products. It is a dedicated single source supplier to Hyundai Motors India and enjoys a dominant market share among all major OEMs in automobiles including defence vehicles, railways and industrial engines. Some of the other clients include Mahindra & Mahindra, TAFE, Simpsons, Cummins, Maruti, Escorts, Ashok Leyland and TELCO among others. The company exports its raw materials and finished products to USA, Mexico, Germany, UK, Iran, South Africa, Dubai and Indonesia among others.
