1. If we look back at the history than one will realise that Sensex has fallen more the 10% in a day only four times in the last 20 years and date vise data is as enumerated below:
(a) 21 December 1990-Sensex fell 199.99 points i.e. a steep fall of 16.19% to 1034.96.
(b) 28 April 1992, Sensex fell 570.42 points i.e. 12.77% to 3896.89.
(c) 17 May 2004 saw a fall of 11.14% in Sensex to 4505.16.
(d) 23 Oct 2008 fall.
2. The meltdown was on back of global worries related to finance segment and was accelerated by non change of CRR by RBI (6.5%), revising of growth targets towards lower end from 8% to 7.5% for 2008/09 and non decision on short sale.
