What is a Card Verification Code?

1. I have informed you all about the need for undertaking requisite action to avoid credit card fraud and same can be attributed to card Verification Code (CVC) which is a number and the same was designed to provide an extra layer of security to credit and debit card holders, To be precise CVC is the last three digits of the number that appears on your signature bar.

2. However CVC 3 number being printed on the reverse side of the card is like writing the secret code of an ATM card on the card itself. The same was designed to ensure that even if an unauthorized person gets assess to the account number, still some check is made. However are these credit card companies sleeping. My question to them is that why don't they provide the facility to change this CVC number like a password to avoid any online frad in credit cards.

3. It will be interesti ng to note that CVC for American Express cards is of four digits, and is located on the front of the card, on the right side and same is contrary to all other cards service providers. All other service providers for credit card namely Discover, MasterCard, and Visa use 3 digit CVCs, which is listed on the back of the card.
